Following my stroke I applied for benefits and because of my citizenship of the Netherlands was entitled to receive both Disability Living Allowance and Incapacity Benefit which started early in 2008. I was soon called in for a work focused interview at the Job Center. As I did not want to end up being forced into doing some mundane job I was proactive and did some investigations into starting my own business. At the interview I was allowed to start this wholesale/distribution business and so imported my stock.
After almost 2 years and much hard work the business which was named Unique Wildside Distributors started to pick up after having been accepted by several shops including Waterstones and having sold stock to their St. Albans branch, the South African shop in Maidenhead, The Country Studio in Ipswich and Hunter's Biltong in Barking.
Unfortunately due to incorrect advice from the St. Albans citizens advice bureau and other benefits issues I was forced to stop trading as I was then deemed to being 'self employed' losing my Income Support Benefit resulting and falling into debt with The St. Albans council having to repay housing and council tax for a certain time period.
I have had three extremely frugal years while trying to recover financially and had to live on credit cards for some time but God is good and he has seen me through with a help from my church family.
I have slowly sold off all my books on eBay and Amazon.com. I still have hundreds of postcards left and wish to sell them from this website.
